About

Who We Are

The USA Ranched Salmon Association is a dedicated organization committed to advancing the land-based aquaculture of salmon in the United States. We represent a collaborative network of innovative producers, scientists, and industry stakeholders who are pioneering a new era of sustainable seafood production on land. By harnessing controlled, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), we raise high-quality Atlantic salmon in land-based facilities across the country, free from the environmental challenges of ocean farming. This approach ensures parasite-free meat, eliminates the need for antibiotics, and results in salmon with the lowest levels of mercury compared to other sources. Our focus is on delivering a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable product that supports American food security, while creating jobs and building unprecedented infrastructure in rural and urban communities alike. Through education, advocacy, and strategic partnerships, USA RSA is fostering a thriving domestic industry that provides nutritious salmon rich in omega-3 fatty acids and other health benefits, all while minimizing ecological impact and promoting economic growth.

About USA Ranched Salmon

Salmon ranching in the USA represents a breakthrough in sustainable seafood production, offering enhanced control over critical factors that impact the quality and welfare of the fish, and eventually the welfare of the humans that eat them. Health of the US citizen alone displays the significance of the first ranched salmon in the United States. The National security issue of protecting our food supply chain and decreasing imports into the US speak to the safety and sustainability of the US population as a whole; if there is one thing that we learned over the past three years, it is that the more we can control our countries, food supply internally, the more resilient we are to the forces of nature and enemies around us.

Controlling the Environment:

Ranching salmon in the US enables comprehensive control over the environmental conditions in which the fish are raised. Unlike traditional salmon farming, where fish are reared in open ocean pens; or, with traditional salmon, ranching in other parts of the world; where the fish are set out to the open ocean, with the expectation of them, returning to their birth place; US ranching involves the use of land-based facilities. Notable seafood websites affirm that ranching provides the ability to optimize water quality, temperature, and oxygen levels, thereby creating a healthier and more sustainable environment for the fish.

Feed Management:

One of the key advantages of ranching salmon is the ability to manage the feed provided to the fish throughout their entire lifecycle. Farmed salmon in Norway, Chile, and Scotland are often exposed to high levels of mercury due to the consumption of wild fish as part of their diet. Ranching facilities, on the other hand, have greater control over the feed composition, ensuring an optimal and sustainable diet for the salmon.

Health and Disease Management:

Ranching salmon in controlled environments significantly reduces the risk of disease outbreaks compared to traditional salmon farming methods. Websites dedicated to seafood industry news emphasize that open ocean farming exposes farmed salmon to potential infections and parasites from wild fish populations. Ranching salmon, under strict biosecurity measures, minimizes these risks, resulting in healthier fish and reduced reliance on antibiotics or other treatments. One of the healthiest attributes of USA Ranched Salmon is that it does not contain any parasites.
